About Me

I am currently a sophomore at UST and graduated from Edina High School in 2008. I am currently enrolled in the education program, with a co- major in political science. Hopefully after graduation I will be able to teach High School Civics somewhere, and inspire my students to succeed and persevere like my own Civics teacher taught me to do. I have four younger brothers and enjoy playing baseball, and Cross Country and distance running. I am currently employed in UST's IRT department.

Why I Joined

I first got approached about joining Sigma Chi last year by Kevin Hill and Alex Pokorny, and was fairly apprehensive when they first mentioned it. I did some research, and by the time I decided I could use Sigma Chi to give my life some much needed purpose and direction, I missed the deadline to pledge Fall of 2008. When the Spring 2009 pledge semester came around, I jumped at the opportunity and have never looked back. I think I put more effort into the pledge process than I have put in anything before, and it has definitely paid off in a greater knowledge of what being a Sig means and who I am as a brother.

How Sigma Chi Has Helped Me

Being a newly initiated brother, I feel like I still have a lot to learn about what Sigma Chi can give me, and in turn what I can give to it. That said, up until High School and through my freshman year of college, I felt like I was always that guy who was forced to blaze his own trail, so to speak. That's not always a bad thing, but it had me searching for direction in life more often than I would have liked. When I joined up as a sophomore, I instantly found that purpose and direction I was lacking. In addition, I also found a support structure that I never had. Having a network of brothers internationally that you share something in common with is definitely a great aspect of this fraternity.
