We Do Not Haze
Hazing has always been an issue in fraternities and sororities, and is popularized by the media. Believe it or not, hazing does not occur as often as the media makes it out. The Sigma Chi Fraternity and the University of St. Thomas strictly prohibit any activies that may be considered hazing.
Why Hazing is Bad
Any type of hazing directly counteracts the efforts that Sigma Chi and Iota Tau preach. Our values of Friendship, Justice and Learning are all destroyed when hazing becomes part of the fraternity. We teach about making friends and more importantly, brotherhood. It is obvious that hazing is not something that you would do to your friend or brother, and therefore should never happen.
We at Iota Tau review our events multiple times before ever carrying them out. We look for any reason why a certain event might be interpreted as hazing. If anybody comes up with a reason, we change the event.
