Philanthropic Work in Sigma Chi
Sigma Chi and the Iota Tau Chapter believe very strongly in the inherent nature of philanthropic work. Philanthropy is an opportunity for Sigma Chi's to give back to their campuses and communities and to help make the world a better place. Sigma Chi has an official philanthropy week called "Derby Days" where each chapter participates in a philanthropic event each day for an entire week. Many chapters perform service hours as well as help raise money for charity and various foundations. The Huntsman Cancer Institute made Sigma Chi the national charity of choice, and performs research to eradicate cancer. In 1992, Sigma Chi established the Children's Miracle Network, a non-profit alliance of more than 160 children's hospitals and health care facilities throughout Canada and the U.S. Sigma Chi annually raises more than $320,000 for Children's Miracle Network affliate hospitals.
