I-Week

The final week of pledgeship is called I-Week (Initiation Week). This week culminates on Friday night...known as Initiation Night. During this week, you will truly realize what it means to be a Sigma Chi.

Initiation Week

Initiation begins with "I-week." (This is not "hell-week." Once again, Sigma Chi does not believe in hazing.) I-week consists of daily readings and semi-ritual activities designed to reinforce the values and ideals which the pledge has studied throught his pledgeship. The week culminates on Friday night known as "Initiation night." This night consists of a ritualistic rite of passage in which each Brother in Sigma Chi has participated.

The ritual helps to explain why Sigma Chi exists and its practices reflect the core of our values. Many other organizations have rituals (such as church services), however by keeping the Sigma Chi ritual secret, it creates a special bond among those who have experienced it. If a pledge makes it through I-week and successfully completes I-night, he is then recognized as a Brother of Sigma Chi and accepted as such by Sigma Chis around the world.
